Safety in the workplace
Are you around chemical waste (liquids, gases, solids and vapors) at work, or do you use chemicals to clean other things? If so, read the following so you can avoid getting sick from your job.
Some chemicals can make you sick. This does not necessarily happen immediately. Chemicals in the workplace can make you sick little by little and can affect your family, since you can carry these chemicals on your clothing and cause them health problems. Some chemicals can also affect unborn babies or cause fertility problems.
Therefore, it is important that you be informed if you are working with chemicals. The law states that you should know the types of chemicals used on your job.
What can you do about it?
- Use safety equipment, such as gloves, goggles, respirators, special clothing and booties.
- Make it a habit to thoroughly clean your workplace, tightly closing any solvents that are stored (liquids), cleaning up spills and dusting frequently.
- Go to classes (training) offered at your job about the chemicals you work with, to make your work safer.
- Always wash your hands before eating.
- Wash your clothes separately.
- Read the safety and precaution messages.
See your doctor if you feel sick.
